Db Ramverk Luggage Buying Guide 2026: Carry-on, Front-access, Check-in or Alu?

Db Ramverk Luggage Buying Guide 2026: Carry-on, Front-access, Check-in or Alu?

Some suitcases you notice only when something breaks. Db's Ramverk cases are meant to be noticed the rest of the time: the near-silent roll across a terminal floor, the split lid that opens like a book, the backpack clipped neatly to the handle so one hand does all the work.

Choosing one is the hard part. Db Journey, the Scandinavian bag brand, sells the Ramverk line in five main shapes, from a 34-liter carry-on to a 105-liter check-in, plus an all-aluminum edition at almost three times the price. This buying guide walks through each size, the features they share and the details that should decide your order, using specs and US prices from dbjourney.com checked on October 24, 2026.

Who This Buying Guide Is For

It's for travelers ready to invest in a hard-shell suitcase that's built to be repaired, not replaced: frequent flyers, photographers and creators hauling gear, and anyone who wants their luggage to match their backpack. If you're comparing a $349 carry-on against bigger cases, or wondering whether aluminum is worth it, read on. Everything below comes from Db's own product, warranty and returns pages; we haven't handled the cases ourselves.

What Every Zippered Ramverk Case Shares

Before you pick a size, it helps to know what you get no matter which one you choose. The polycarbonate Ramverk cases (Carry-on, Front-access Carry-on, Check-in Medium and Check-in Large) all list:

  • Japanese Hinomoto 360° wheels. Db calls them ultra-silent and puncture-proof: 50 mm on the Carry-on, 60 mm on the check-in sizes, which Db lists as replaceable.
  • A split central zipper with double interior dividers. Two covered compartments let you open the case standing up and keep your packing private at a security table.
  • A padded 16" laptop compartment, so your computer rides inside the shell instead of in a separate bag.
  • Numerical TSA-approved locks and a custom telescopic trolley handle.
  • The Hook-Up System. Db's attachment system lets you clip a Db backpack or bag onto the case, so one hand steers everything.

The shells are polycarbonate made with 70% recycled material, per Db's product pages.

Ramverk Carry-on: Light and Simple for Weekends

The Ramverk Carry-on ($349) is the lightest case in the family at 7.05 pounds, and Db calls it its most compact and agile luggage. The 34 liters suit a long weekend or a short work trip, and Db's interior photos show sneakers, headphones and a water bottle packed under the divider with room to spare. Two mesh pockets inside the dividers hold cables and chargers.

Buy this if: you want the lightest Ramverk to lift into an overhead bin and you pack neatly.

Ramverk Front-access Carry-on: For the Laptop-at-Security Crowd

For $50 more, the Front-access Carry-on ($399) adds an exterior front panel, so you can reach your tech or toiletries without laying the case flat at the security belt. Db says the panel can be locked with an extra TSA lock, sold separately. It's also slightly bigger, at 38 liters, and Db notes that the front-access design packs bulky items like camera gear or high-top sneakers more flexibly. The trade-off is weight: 8.6 pounds against 7.05.

Buy this if: you fly for work, carry a camera, or hate unzipping your whole bag in public.

Check-in Medium and Large: A Week or Two Away

The Check-in Luggage Medium ($499) holds 70 liters and weighs 9.48 pounds. Db pitches it as the versatile middle child, suited to a week-long trip. The Check-in Luggage Large ($599) jumps to 105 liters at 11.9 pounds, and Db aims it at trips of two weeks or more. Both keep the 16" laptop compartment and double dividers, and both upgrade to 60 mm wheels.

There's a storage bonus too. Db describes the line as a nestable ecosystem: the Medium fits inside the Large, and carry-on-sized pieces store inside the Medium. Three suitcases, one closet footprint.

Buy the Medium if: you take one or two week-long trips a year. Buy the Large if: you travel as a family, pack for winter, or stay away for weeks.

Ramverk Alu Carry-on: The Repairable Heirloom

At $999, the Ramverk Alu Carry-on is a different kind of purchase. It's built from aluminum with what Db calls a rivet-less construction, which keeps the exterior clean and makes parts easier to replace and repair. The trolley handle is removable, the carry strap is interchangeable, and a center frame acts as a spine for added stiffness. Inside: 36 liters with a laptop pocket, tablet pocket and two pen holders.

The catch is weight. At 12.9 pounds it's nearly twice as heavy as the polycarbonate Carry-on, and that eats into any carry-on weight limit.

Buy this if: you want one aluminum case to keep, repair and travel with for years, and weight limits rarely bother you.

Before You Buy: Db Black, Returns and the Warranty

One detail can change the value of your purchase: Db Black, the brand's sign-up membership. Db lists 10% off your first purchase, free shipping and extended warranty and returns among the member benefits. That extended warranty is the big one: active members get 10 years on hard-shell products, aluminum luggage included, and 7 years on soft-sided bags such as backpacks and duffels, for eligible products bought from Db or an authorized reseller. It covers manufacturing defects that affect function, like faulty zips, cracked shells or broken hooks. Damage from airline handling while a bag is checked isn't covered.

Returns are accepted within 30 days of the shipping date for unused, undamaged products, and returns are free for Db Black members. Db says refunds can take at least 14 business days to reach your card.

Our tip: sign up for Db Black before checkout. Db notes that proof of membership at the time of purchase may be required for a warranty claim.

Db Ramverk Buying FAQ

What's the difference between the Carry-on and the Front-access Carry-on?

The Front-access version adds a lockable exterior panel, 4 extra liters (38 L vs 34 L) and about 1.5 pounds. It costs $399 vs $349.

Can I fit a laptop in a Ramverk check-in case?

Yes. Db lists a 16" laptop compartment on the Carry-on, Front-access Carry-on, Check-in Medium and Check-in Large.

Do the Ramverk cases nest for storage?

Db says the Medium fits inside the Large, and carry-on-sized pieces store inside the Medium.

Is the Alu Carry-on worth the extra weight?

It weighs 12.9 pounds, against 7.05 for the polycarbonate Carry-on. You're paying for aluminum construction and a design Db built for repair, not for a lighter bag.

The Bottom Line

Most travelers will be happiest with a pair: the $349 Ramverk Carry-on for weekends and the 70-liter Check-in Medium for longer trips, nested together in the closet. Choose the Front-access model if security lines stress you, the Large for family or winter travel, and the Alu if you want one case to repair for years. Join Db Black first for the 10-year hard-shell warranty, then check the Db Journey deals page for today's offers.
